The Office of the Chief is under the direction of the Fire and Rescue Chief who is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue through the implementation of the Department’s strategic plan. He ensures that the plan's objectives are proactive and consistent with the Department and County’s mission, vision and values. The Office of the Chief consists of the Executive Officer to the Chief, Operational Medical Director, Deputy Fire & Rescue Chief and three  Assistant Fire & Rescue Chiefs.

In addition, the Chief serves as the head of the Prince William County Fire and Rescue System and, as the chief executive of the Prince William County Fire and Rescue System governance structure, is responsible for overseeing and leading the Fire and Rescue System pursuant to Prince William County Code Chapter 9.2.
