During Prince William Public Schools' virtual event, "Introduce a Girl to STEAM Day," on Feb. 25, students will have the opportunity to watch a 16-minute video created by the County Police Department educating them on how science, technology, engineering, the arts and math play a significant role in helping the police investigate crimes.
During the video titled, "How We Use STEAM," Lieutenant Heather A. Vance explains how the police use radar and lidar devices, license plate readers, mobile identification equipment, full spectrum imaging and facial composite software to identify and solve crimes in the field and at the department offices.
The video provides a detailed walk-through of the evidence collection and analysis process for a fictional scenario. Courtesy of the video, students can experience the forensics portion of a criminal investigation firsthand.
