The Prince William County Planning Office is continuing to update its Comprehensive Plan, Pathway to 2040. Building on updates started in 2018, the County and its consultant partners are updating the Plan's Land Use, Mobility and Housing chapters during the first half of 2021. In coordination with this effort, the County will also prepare three geographically focused small area/sector plans for the Yorkshire, Fairgrounds and Bethlehem Road areas.

The 2040 Comprehensive Plan will:

  • Provide a blueprint for the future growth, redevelopment and preservation of the County
  • Express a shared vision and goals for the future

Crucial to the development of the Comprehensive Plan is community involvement and input. Throughout the spring, residents, community groups and organizations will have opportunities to participate in the planning process and provide input to help guide the chapter updates and small area/sector plans.

For more information on the Comprehensive Plan update and to take a poll about your priorities for the future in Prince William County, please visit the Pathway to 2040 web portal at:

The next few months will be an exciting time to learn about and envision the future of Prince William County in order to ensure that it remains a "community of choice."  The Planning Office looks forward to hearing your ideas!
