Nutrition Education Programs
The Virginia Cooperative Extension Nutrition Education Program provides educational experiences that help families and individuals understand how to best manage their food resources, maintain personal health and reduce food related risks. In addition, educational resources are available to assist individuals and families in identifying local food resources, answering food handling concerns and understanding dietary needs. This service is offered to SNAP Eligible residents of Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park by trained staff.
SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP) AND STRETCHING YOUR FOOD DOLLARS
Learn the basics of nutrition and meal preparation including meal planning and recipe ideas. Know how to eat well within your food budget and make your money and food stamps go further. Realize what you need to look for on the nutrition food label. Learn to make healthy choices and portions for the whole family. Find out about food storage and safe food handling. Set up a physical activity program for your family. This free program is offered to individuals and families of all ages who receive or qualify to receive food stamps, free or reduced school lunches, WIC or Department of Social Services assistance. Classes are conducted in English and Spanish in small group sessions.
