Certification To become a master financial educator volunteer
Do you have financial expertise or experience in banking, financial planning, taxes or budgeting? Would you enjoy making a difference in our community by leading financial seminars, or coaching clients? Combine your skills by becoming a Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Financial Educator Volunteer. Our passion is to share research-based methods for improving personal financial health.
PURPOSE OF MASTER financial Educator VOLUNTEERS
The purpose of a Master Financial Educator Volunteer (MFEV) certification is to share research-based proven methods for leading financial education sessions. VCE programs support positive personal finance habits that lead to improved quality of life for the community. MFEVs incorporate financial best practices and tools that foster reducing student debt, growing savings, improving credit scores or assisting clients using financial apps. MFEVs empower students to make better-informed financial decisions.
MASTER FINANCIAL EDUCATOR VOLUNTEER (MFEV) TRAINING
Volunteers share real-world financial experiences with our clients. Our certification program will prepare you with the current financial tools, apps, & resources. This 24-hour certification includes hands-on, research-based training seminars over eight weeks. Brush up on your presentation skills and interpersonal communications. Class size is limited. An additional 26 hours of shadowing and hands on instruction follows. Oppurtunities for 1-1 counseling for volunteers who are HUD certified or would like to become ceritifed (self study course).
Background screening required and included in the registration fee of $65.00. Fees include background check, materials, polo shirt and name tag. Those submitting applications will be contacted for a phone interview. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon passing the Interview and the background check process. Do not mail checks with your application, payment instructions will be given after the interview process. A $50.00 fee will be assessed for all returned checks.

Volunteers will be accepted, conditional to background check
Volunteers who have completed this training, agree to provide 50 volunteer hours annually in support of VCE education programs and coaching services. Opportunities for service include leading financial seminars, financial coaching, and community outreach efforts including a speakers' bureau, leading AmericaSaves presentations, working with clients for referrals to resources, managing social media and other services. There is something for everyone!
