The Police Department established the Citizen's Advisory Board (CAB) in 2017 to begin obtaining feedback from the community on critical topics, as well as to expand the lines of communication between the Department and key stakeholders within our community.
As its name suggests, the CAB is advisory in nature, and is comprised of members of the community from a variety of organizations throughout Prince William County. The Board meets on a regular basis to provide the Chief of Police with advice on a range of topics pertaining to law enforcement within Prince William County such as:
- policing policies, practices, and training programs;
- community outreach and building public trust; and
- leadership and accountability.
The CAB is a valuable program that will benefit the Police Department and the community. By establishing the CAB, our intent is to ensure that the community knows their Police Department is invested in their quality of life, and that they in turn are as equally invested in us.
The mission of the CAB is to enhance trust, communication, and collaboration between the community and the Police Department in order to increase knowledge and understanding.
Total CAB membership is between 15 and 25 members/organizations, consisting of both permanent and rotating members. The term length of current CAB members is indefinite. Any new members will rotate on either a one or three year term. Currently, the number of permanent members is 18 with no rotating members. The Chief of Police reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of CAB members as necessary or deemed appropriate to fulfill the Board's objectives.
New members of the CAB are selected by the Chief of Police, in consultation with the board. CAB members can recommend and nominate potential members or organizations. A five-member executive committee assists in facilitating the CAB, and the CAB selects a chair and vice-chair.
