Understanding the Real Estate Tax Bill

Your total real estate tax bill includes specific levies and fees based upon the property's assessed value, physical address, and type of property.

The greatest impact on the real estate tax bill is the General Tax Levy. This tool provides insight into how the General Tax Levy impacts the real estate tax bill, and illustrates what services Prince William County Government funds with that revenue.

For a comprehensive look at the current budget, view the FY2021 Budget.   If you have specific questions related to your individual tax bill, contact the Department of Finance.

You will need to know the assessed value of your property to use this calculator.  This information is available online by visiting  Real Estate Assessments. Use this calculator to see how your estimated tax bills compares with the average tax bill below.

Average Residential Tax Bill

The FY2021 Budget is balanced at a flat tax rate of 1.125 per $100 of value and generates an average residential tax bill of $4,355, a $178 increase over the FY20 average of $4,177. The images below shows a comparison between the average tax bill for FY21 through FY17 in conjunction with the County services that it funds.
