Despite being a relatively new and less prevalent
issue in the Prince William area, as a concerned and
aware community we should be aware of how human
trafficking might appear in our community, including
sex trafficking by gangs.
Human Trafficking Risk Factors
- Low self-esteem
- Lack of feeling connected to family, school,
community, church, positive role models, positive
groups or activities
- History of skipping school or runaway
- Victim of child sexual or mental abuse, bullying
- Gang involvement
Signs of Being Trafficked
- Tattoos with a nickname, a man’s name, reference to
daddy or money symbols
- Unexplained possession of money or material goods
- Unexplained injuries
- Starts referring to self by a new name
- Running away or skipping school
- Becomes secretive about new friends or where they
are going
