Welcome to the Prince William County Police Department Web site. We hope this Web site will assist you in understanding more about your Police Department and the role we play in making our community a safe place to live and work.

The highly trained men and women of the Prince William County, Virginia, Police Department are dedicated to continually providing outstanding police service. We are committed to improving the quality of life in our community. But we do not do it alone – through the combined efforts of our Department and the thousands of Prince William County citizen volunteers who actively participate in Neighborhood Watch or other community service programs, this remains one of the safest jurisdictions in the country.

The Prince William County Police Department began operations on July 1, 1970, and currently employs more than 650 full-time personnel to provide police service to the County. This includes 537 sworn officers, 111 part-time crossing guards to provide traffic safety to our community's school children, 18 Animal Control officers, administrators and investigators who protect humans and animals in the County, and more than 100 civilian employees.
