Founded in 1731, Prince William County is one of the oldest counties in Northern Virginia, so there's plenty of history to go around. The Prince William County Historic Properties Division, the Manassas Museum, Historic Prince William and the Prince William Historic Commission are inviting people to spend the day on March 25 learning all about the county's past during the inaugural Prince William-Manassas History Symposium. The program will run between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Old Manassas Courthouse at 9248 Lee Avenue, Manassas.

Guest lecturers will speak during day about significant events that happened in the county, from revolutionary to modern times, during the "Everything is New Here" symposium. Dr. John Moss will present The Washingtons and Prince William County. Robert O'Neill will present J.E.B. Stuart's Christmas Raid. Lisa Sievel-Otten will give a talk on The Great Fire of Manassas & the Town it Inspired. Thomas E. Williams will give a talk on World War I Through the Eyes of Marines. Norma Fields will present The Courageous Four and the Integration of Prince William County Schools.

Following the symposium, people are invited to the Manassas Museum, 9101 Prince William St. in Manassas, to see and handle some of the museum's artifacts during the curator program from 5-6:30 p.m. "It's going to be a lot of fun for people. It's not often that you get to handle artifacts from the museum's collection," said Rob Orrison, Prince William County Historic Site Operations Supervisor.

Admission for the day is $10 and will include refreshments. Send an email to historicpreservation@pwcgov.org or call 703-792-4754 to register for tickets and more information. Registration is required.
