It's that time of year when preparations for the next budget are in full swing. There are several important dates over the next few months leading up to the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget, which runs from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
First, the County Executive will present the proposed budget to the Board of County Supervisors during their 2 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, February 21. This is a draft of the budget based on the guidance previously given by the Board.
Then, on Saturday, February 25, there is a Community Budget Meeting where members of the community can ask questions about the draft budget to the county’s Management and Budget staff.
The School Board will present their budget to the Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m.
On April 4, the Board will recap the draft budget at their 2 p.m. meeting. Then, during the 7:30 p.m. meeting, they will hold a public hearing on the proposed tax rate.
The Board of County Supervisors will then markup the draft budget on Tuesday, April 11, during their 7:30 p.m. meeting. This is an opportunity for the Board to make any changes they would like included in the final version.
The FY2018 Budget season will wrap up with the Board adopting the budget on Tuesday, April 18, at their 7:30 p.m. meeting.
All meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Board Chambers at the McCoart Administration Building.
