Farm Brew Live and 2 Silos Brewing Company are now open for business. The performance venue and brewery is located on eight-plus acres on Discovery Boulevard at Innovation Park, just off the Prince William Parkway, and incorporates the use of the historic Thomasson Barn.
In Sept. 2015, Prince William County sold the historic barn, with two stone silos and an arched metal roof, to Silva Holdings, which agreed to restore the barn at the same time it built the $8-millon brewery campus. The barn had been vacant for more than 50 years. William T. Thomasson owned and operated the 8,600-square-foot, two-story, dairy barn – with large, vaulted, exposed-beam ceilings – beginning in 1929.
Meredith Arnest, director of brand development for the Villagio Hospitality Group, which operates 2 Silos Brewing Company and Farm Brew Live, said the attraction will provide a getaway where busy residents can spend time with friends and family. The grounds include a packaging facility, a bistro and tasting room, a company retail store, a beer garden to grow hops and seasonal produce to flavor the beers, walking trails, corn hole boards and bocce courts.
"It's an oasis. It takes you away from the hustle and bustle of what we have in the Washington Metropolitan Area," Arnest said.
Brentsville District Supervisor Jeanine Lawson said she believes the venue will attract customers from across a wide area. "We're very excited that they're here. This is a beautiful project, and it's going to be an attraction... I expect people from all over Northern Virginia and rural Virginia to come and check out Farm Brew Live, and of course, 2 Silos. This was a vision by the owners. They came to me about two years ago. They were looking at the historic Thomasson Barn, and they wanted to build a campus that incorporated brewing and beer and growing the hops right here on the campus."
Tours of the campus will be available on Friday evenings, as well as Saturdays and Sundays, and will include the barn that will be fully renovated and open soon under the name of Black Sheep whiskey+wine+noshery. Tours will also include the brewery and the Yard, which is the Farm Brew Live performance area, Arnest said.
"Farm Brew Live is all about the experience," Arnest said. "We have live local music. We have wonderful craft beers and craft food. The majority of shows are complimentary. It's about the experience. You can come out with your family, come out with your friends and enjoy a lovely day … enjoy our craft beer, our music and our wonderful food."
