The Prince William County Planning Office invites the public to attend a Comprehensive Plan Update Workshop on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The workshop will be held in Room 202 A&B in the Development Services Building, at 5 County Complex Court in Woodbridge, where people will learn about upcoming planning projects and comprehensive plan amendments.
In March, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors initiated changes to the Comprehensive Plan that included removing the Bi-County Parkway. The Board asked staff to identify transportation and land use alternatives and work with business leaders and community members across the county to identify solutions for moving people north and south through the County.
The Board has also directed staff to follow up on board-initiated studies that include, among other things, the Potomac Community Design Guidelines, the Rural Preservation Study, Cockpit Point Battlefield Study, Dale City Design Guidelines and Virginia Railway Express Studies.
There are also several areas slated for planning review and updates include North Woodbridge, the Parkway Employment Center, Innovation, the Fairgrounds-New Dominion area, Independent Hill, Triangle and Yorkshire, according to County documents.
Other changes to the Comprehensive Plan that the Board initiated include the Thoroughfare Plan Update, a technical review to update population and employment forecasts, an economic development plan update and studies of urban development areas and levels of service standards.
Prince William County's Long Range Planning Manager, David McGettigan, said, "The purpose of the workshop is to kick off the stakeholder input process and provide information to people interested in planning for the community's future. We want to connect with people who are interested in the Comprehensive Plan that we can invite to future meetings."
On Oct. 19, the Prince William County Planning Commission will hold a work session to discuss the plan update. Subsequent meetings, to be held over the next 18 months, will be announced as they are scheduled, and all meetings will be open to the public, McGettigan said.
