Battersby Duo: Books Alive!
A mixture of high-energy “bee” bop, dollops
of doo-wop and buckets of laughter are the backdrop for this
incredible concert. This award-winning duo has appeared at
The
Kennedy Center, the White House, and Wolf Trap. They have
also appeared on TV shows on PBS, CBS, ABC, and NBC.
They are the winners of 3 Parents’ Choice Awards and an
Emmy.

The Science Museum of Virginia
Presents five workshops and a special program on Tuesday,
August 11. Each student is limited to attending no more than
two workshops and the special program. Registration, in
person, is required for each workshop and begins August 4.
The Science Museum has set the age limits. Please observe
them when registering for the workshops.

Scat

Examine the signs that animals leave behind. How are they
different? Identify a trait each animal needs for survival.
Make
a track to take home.

For students entering grades 1– 3. Limit 30
students.
Compare your community to that of a bee while learning
the role of each bee in the hive. How do bees communicate?
Investigate the many different ways that honeybees help
humans.

For students entering grades 2 – 5. Limit 30

Check out what these clever levers and powerful pulleys can
do! Try each of the five simple machines and see how they
make work easier for you.

Nerve!
For students entering grades 3 – 8. Limit 30
students.
How do neural signals get from your brain to your toes?
Experiment with your own nervous system, test your reflexes,
build a neuron, and map out the path messages travel in your
body.

4:45 p.m. Rocket Propulsion
For students entering grades 4 – 8. Limit 30
students.
Experiment with Newton’s laws of motion. Learn about the
applications of rockets: what they do and how they work. Use
a Newton cart to test Newton’s second law of motion!

7:00 p.m. Simply
Shocking
Experience 100,000 volts of static electricity from the Van
de Graaff
generator. A Science Museum educator makes your hair stand
on end in this
dramatic demonstration that includes a discussion about
lightning and the
forces between charges.
For students entering grades 1– 8.

MacDonald’s Farm Presented by Bob Brown’s Puppets
Derwood Duck, Clara Cluck, Benny Bunny, Bingo
and many more clever animals provide some old fashioned,
down home fun down on the farm in this rollicking
