The Index lists all items on the map: roads, towns, plantation names, runs, churches, etc. as well as their alternate names. Locator is the map grid. Each grid has been broken down
further into quadrants– a,b,c,d. If you are looking, for example, for B-2-d after locating the grid, B-2, the last letter –d means the place can be found on the mid to lower right portion of the grid.
