Proctoring Services

Proctoring Services

Prince William Public Library System offers proctoring service for the public at the four full-service libraries. Due to computer time restrictions, we do not proctor online exams or any tests requiring the use of a computer.

PWPLS reserves the right to decline to proctor any exam at the librarian’s discretion.

If you are in need of a proctor for your print exam, follow the steps outlined below:

  • Call or visit the library where you would like to take the test. A librarian will be assigned to be your proctor.

    Bull Run Regional Library: 703-792-4500
    8051 Ashton Ave.
    Manassas, VA 20109

    Central Community Library: 703-361-8211
    8601 Mathis Ave
    Manassas, VA 20110

    Chinn Park Regional Library: 703-792-4800
    13065 Chinn Park Drive
    Prince William, VA 22192

    Potomac Community Library: 703-494-8126
    2201 Opitz Boulevard
    Woodbridge, VA 22191

  • Using the proctor’s contact information, the student prepares any paperwork required by the school.

  • The exam is sent to the proctor. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the library to make sure all tests are received. Exams may be received at the libraries via U.S. Mail, email, fax, Federal Express, etc.

  • Librarian and student schedule a mutually convenient time for the student to take the test. Staff schedules are not altered to accommodate proctored exams. Librarians do not proctor exams “on demand.”

  • Student takes the exam. The student must not require direct supervision while taking an exam.

  • The librarian returns the test to the school. Exams are returned to the schools via the PWPLS mailroom. The library reserves the right to return facsimile or emailed exams via the U.S. Mail.

Costs and Expenses

PWPLS does not charge a fee for proctoring exams. The student is responsible for all paper, supplies, envelopes, photocopying, faxing costs, postage and fees. Faxing is $1.00 per sheet outgoing and .15 per page incoming. Copying from email or the photocopier is .15 per page.

Missed Appointments

If the student misses an appointment, the librarian reschedules at a date and time convenient to both parties. The student may not request a substitute proctor except in an emergency.

If a student misses two appointments without a valid reason, the librarian returns the uncompleted exam to the learning institution. Librarians are not required to schedule an exam for a third time.
