  Goal of Position: If you want to help others and improve your own parenting skills, be a volunteer STEP Group Facilitator. Virginia Cooperative Extension is currently accepting applications for the next training cycle for Volunteer Parent Educators.

  Activities/ Responsibilities: Our parenting classes are offered at various locations throughout the county and throughout the year. We offer classes for Parents of Young Children (birth to age 5), Parents of School-Age Children (age 6 to 12 years), Parents of Teens (age 12 and up), and Spanish-speaking Parents.

Services Benefits: This unique opportunity provides the Volunteer with training in the STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) curriculum and group facilitation skills. Volunteers will also improve their own parenting skills while helping others.

Timeframe (Work Schedule): Candidates must first complete a six-week STEP class, and then receive 7 1/2 hours of training in facilitation and leadership of groups. We ask that all volunteers be willing to commit to leading a minimum of two six-week classes within the next 1 1/2 years. Qualifications sought: It is important that the volunteer be a parent and interested in guiding other parents in improving their parenting skills.
