·         Virginia has a General Election every November on the Tuesday following the first Monday in the month.
 
·         Federal officeholders are elected in even-numbered years with Presidential elections in leap years.
ú   If called, Presidential Primaries are held on the first Tuesday in March.
ú   If primaries are called by the two political parties for U.S. Senate and/or U.S. Representatives, they are held on the second Tuesday in June.
 
·         State and Local officeholders are elected in odd-numbered years.
 
·         Haymarket, Occoquan and Quantico Mayor and Town Council serve for two years; and are elected in even-number years on the first Tuesday in May.
 
·         Dumfries Mayor and three Town Council members are elected to four-year terms on the first Tuesday in May. The other three Dumfries Town Council members are elected in the opposite even-numbered years (in leap years) on the first Tuesday in May.
  • Town Officials assume office on July 1 of the year elected.
