WORRIED ABOUT THE EQUIFAX HACK?
The Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau both have timely information about safeguarding your financial identity.
Shoud YOU DO A CREDIT FREEZE?
If you decide to put a credit freeze on your account, normally it runs $10 to enact the freeze for each credit reporting agency. At this time, Equifax is currently waiving this fee. There is no fee to remove the freeze in Virginia.
ANNUAL CREDIT REPORT.COM
If you look up your information on www.annualcreditreport.com, it will ask you several financial questions to verify your identity. They may ask questions such as what financial institution your 1999 mortgage was from, or how much is your monthly car payment. While these are multiple choice questions, do not guess the answer. NOTE: If you answer these questions incorrectly, you will not be able to get your credit report online. Instead, you will need to mail in verifying information.
