Virginia Cooperative Extension Prince William offers FREE educational events on personal finance and homeownership on a regular schedule.

Am I Ready to Buy a House?  Learn what’s really involved in buying a house.   Calculate how much your monthly payment can be and the sales price that’s affordable for you.  Examine different loan products and estimate how much cash you need to have on hand.  Discover how your credit history affects your ability to qualify for a loan.  By the end of the workshop, you will have your answer.

Smart Money Management - Learn basic financial principles and improve your money management skills.  Determine your net worth by comparing assets and liabilities, and develop a spending plan to achieve financial health.  Topics include setting goals, testing your money values, managing credit, keeping accurate records and investing basics.  Completion of the workshop is advised as a pre-requisite to a Financial Assessment.

Homeownership Seminar - Become an informed buyer as you prepare for the most important purchase of your life.  Learn about the home buying process from pre-purchase considerations through settlement.  Receive the tools to manage your spending and understand your credit report.  Examine different loan products and be introduced to the real estate professional.  Discover the importance of a home inspection and the responsibilities of homeownership.  Complete the seminar and receive a certificate of completion from the Virginia Housing Development Authority Homeownership Education Program.  The seminar meets most lender requirements.

Rental Workshop: Learn about your rights and responsibilities under the Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act.  Examine a standard lease agreement, and understand lease violation notices.  Protect your rights by becoming educated about the legal eviction process.  If you have issues with your landlord, this workshop will help you learn how to resolve them.

Please Note: First Time Home Buyer or Housing Assistance Program applicants from the PWC Office of Housing and Community Development or the City of Manassas will be issued a certificate upon completion of Smart Money Management, the Home Ownership Seminar and a Financial Assessment.
