SYSTEMATIC TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING (STEP)
General Parenting Classes for parents of children in specific age groups: |
- Parents of Young Children (birth to 5)
- Parents of School-Age Children (ages 6-12)
- Parents of Teenagers (ages 13 and up)
Prince William Cooperative Extension is offering the following Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) groups. STEP is a six-week discussion group for parents and others who want to learn more effective ways to communicate and discipline. It is offered for three separate age groups Parents of Young Children (birth to age 5) Parents of School-Age Children (ages 6 to 12) and Parents of Teenagers (ages 13 and up). The cost to cover class materials is $40 for all six session per individual or couple. Class registration closes at 1 p.m. on the first day of the class. Parent Education groups are led by trained volunteers who have completed facilitator training and have also participated in the program. Group leaders use the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) curriculum. Through discussion, videos, and role playing the group explores ways to improve communication find effective means of discipline explore parental expectations and understand child development and the importance of good self-esteem. The material covered in each class specifically addresses age-group parenting issues.
