Certification for master financial educator & volunteer

Do you have financial expertise or experience in banking, financial planning or budgeting? Would you enjoy making a difference in our community by leading financial seminars, or coaching clients? Combine your skills by becoming a Virginia Cooperative Extension, Master Financial Educator Volunteer.  Our passion is to share research-based methods for improving personal financial health.

PURPOSE OF MASTER financial Educators & VOLUNTEERS

The purpose of a Master Financial Educator Volunteer (MFEV) is to promote and educate our consumers about the benefits of adopting healthy personal financial behaviors. VCE education and counseling programs support positive personal finance habits that lead to improved quality of life for the community as a whole.  MFEVs promote financial best practices and tools such as reducing student debt, growing savings, improving credit or helping clients learn to use financial apps.  Your MFEV training will support the education programs and financial coaching offered by VCE leading clients to make better-informed financial decisions.  

MASTER FINANCIAL EDUCATOR VOLUNTEER (MFEV) TRAINING

Most volunteers have worked in the financial sector, banking, insurance or another financial management capacity and have real-world experience to share with our clients. Our certification program will prepare you with the current financial tools, apps, & resources. This 24 hours of hands-on, research-based training over eight weeks includes assignments in addition to class time.  Brush up on your presentation skills and interpersonal communications.  Class size is limited.  Registration fee is $65.00 which covers the cost of the materials.  Background screening is an additional $9.95 per person.  Those submitting applications will be contacted for a phone interview.

VOLUNTEER Opportunities

Volunteers who have completed this training, agree to provide 50 volunteer hours annually in support of VCE education programs and coaching services. Opportunities for service include leading financial seminars, one-on-one counseling, financial coaching, and community outreach efforts including a speakers' bureau, leading the AmericaSaves presentations, working with clients for referrals to resources, managing social media and other services.  There is something for everyone!
