At Virginia Cooperative Extension, we offer educational workshops, resources and individual counseling to help you manage your personal finances and plan for your financial future. Staff and trained volunteers can help you create a spending plan, manage your credit, prepare for homeownership, reduce your debt, and build reserves to achieve financial stability.

Applying for Prince William County's First-time Homebuyer Program (FTHB)? 

You (all names included on the loan application) are required to complete the following:
  • Smart Money Management (SMM)
  • Homeownership Seminar (HOS)
  • Financial Assessment (FA)
There is no order required in completing the above-mentioned three activities, however, it is recommented that you take Smart Money Management prior to having a financial assessment. Please view our course calendar and call 703-792-6287 or email smartmoney@pwcgov.org to register for SMM and HOS.  To register for a FA, please call 703-792-4765 or email smartmoney@pwcgov.org.  If registering via email, please include name(s), a contact number and email address, along with the name and date of activity you would like to register for.  Upon successfully registering, you will receive a confirmation email.

Volunteer Opportunities
If you have a desire to guide people on the path to financial stability, become a Volunteer Personal Finance Educator.  Extensive training is provided twice a year in personal finances, communication and interview techniques, and presentation skills.  Opportunities are available in individual counseling and group education.   Email smartmoney@pwcgov.org for more information.
