Homeless & Winter Shelters
The  Drop-In Center will be open Wednesday 7/29/15 and Thursday  7/30/15  from  1pm -8pm for cooling services, due to inclement weather conditions
 
HILDA BARG Homeless Prevention Center

This 30-bed shelter for families and single adults offers comprehensive services including case management, job readiness, mental health counseling and  medical referrals.  The shelter is open year-round.

The Homeless Prevention Center is located at 14945 Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1), between Dale Blvd. and Opitz Blvd. in Woodbridge. For more information call  703-680-5403.

Winter Shelter
The Winter Shelter is a 47-bed, overnight shelter for single adult men and women that is in operation each year November 1 through March 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.  The purpose of the shelter is to protect homeless residents from hypothermia during the winter season. When temperatures reach below 32 degrees, the Winter Shelter will operate under extended hours.

Other Homeless Shelters

The Prince William County Department of Social Services provides financial and technical support to the following homeless residential programs:

​CONTINUUM OF CARE (CoC) PROGRAM FUNDING PROCESS COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN

The CoC Program (24 CFR part 578) is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, state, and local governments to quickly re-house the homeless while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; to promote access and to effectively utilize mainstream programs by the homeless; and to optimize self-sufficiency among those experiencing homelessness.

The FY 2015 CoC Program funding process is administered under the CoC Program interim Rule and covers the application and award process for FY 2015 CoC Program funds. The Prince William Area (PWA) CoC will be submitting a community-wide application to support the following programs: Transitional Housing for homeless households and Permanent Supportive Housing for chronically homeless individuals.  PWA CoC will consider submitting applications for Rapid Re-Housing for Families contingent upon the community need and available funds. 

Qualifying Public and Private voluntary agencies interested in applying for the Department of Housing and Urban Development FY 15 CoC Program should submit a letter of intent to the Prince William County Department of Social Services – Homeless Services Unit, 14716 Potomac Mill Road,  Woodbridge, VA 22192  ​no later than 4:30 p.m. on June 26, 2015. 

Letters of Intent should include a brief description of agency mission, program component that funds will be requested for and the amount of funding being requested.  A "How To Apply Workshop" will be held for qualifying agencies on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
