Committee for Persons With Disabilities (CFPD)
The Prince William County Committee for Persons with Disabilities (PWC CFPD) was established in 1987 as an advisory group to the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) on disability issues. Its primary purpose is to recommend to the BOCS ways and means by which the County may be more responsive to the needs of citizens with disabilities. In 1992 the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) designated local Disability Services Boards (DSB). CFPD was designated to serve as the Prince William County Disability Board. CFPD consists of eight representatives appointed by the supervisor from each magisterial district, one local official, two business representatives and a DRS representative. Where do we meet?
Committee meetings are held the 1st Tuesday of each month.

The meetings are open to the public and citizen input on disability issues is welcome.

Needs Assessment Report
The Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) conducts a needs assessment survey every three years to identify the needs of those with disabilities in Virginia. The data from this survey is presented to local and state officials to inform them of the unmet needs of those with disabilities. In the last needs assessment (2009) transportation housing and employment were among the top needs in Prince William County. For a summary of the 2009 Needs Assessment Report see the link below. Public Awareness
The Committee is constantly trying to promote public awareness of the unique problems which people with disabilities must deal with on a daily basis.
Kids on the Block is an international communications program that uses puppets to depict disabled and non-disabled persons teaching children to accept and appreciate the differences among us. The puppet characters talk about issues such as what it is like to be blind or to use a wheelchair. If you are interested in having the Kids on the Block perform for your school or organization call 703-792-7649.
If you are interested in helping us create disability awareness and tear down barriers contact us. There may be a vacancy on the Committee for your district or some other way in which you may be able to volunteer. Thank you for your interest.
If you know of a business large or small which you consider 'disability friendly' we want to hear about it. The Committee is seeking nominations for the Virginia Disability Friendly Business Recognition Seal. Do you know of a business that values people with disabilities as employees and customers?
