Rules, Regulations and Guiding Documents
The Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division creates, follows, reviews and updates a variety of guiding documents to ensure the safe, environmentally sound and efficient operation of our solid waste facilities. This vigilance ensures we seize new opportunities and take advantage of new practices and technologies.
A Solid Waste Management Plan guides our operation and programs. The plan is updated every five years and approved by the state. In addition, Prince William County follows the stringent rules and regulations for solid waste management as outlined in Chapter 22 (Refuse) of the County Code and in the Virginia Solid Waste Management Regulations.
We have established regulations for our Solid Waste Facilities. In addition, we have created rules of operation at the County Landfill on Route 234, the Balls Ford Road Compost Facility and the Fairfax Couty I-95 Energy/Resource Recovery Facility. These rules and regulations ensure fair and consistent practices.
