Electronics Recycling and Disposal 

Prince William County residents are urged to properly dispose of or recycle electronics at the County Landfill or Balls Ford Road Compost Facility. Residents are limited to three units for disposal per visit.  There is no charge to County residents for this service. Collections will be held in tandem with the Household Hazardous Waste Collection at:  
 
Landfill: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Note New Hours -- Compost Facility: Second Saturday monthly, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 
Electronics will not be accepted from businesses (see below for alternative sites). 
 
The Electronics Recycling Program accepts:  
  • Computer (CPU), notebook/laptop computer, and computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.
  • Small printers and small copiers*, fax machines and scanners
  • Televisions, including picture tube, projection LCD and plasma types
  • VCRs, CD/DVD players, stereos (no speakers)
  • Telephones and cell phones
  • Computer cables and cords, chips and cards, miscellaneous circuit boards
  • Other electronic equipment with a circuit board or electric cord

*Large floor standing copiers and plotter type printers may be recycled in the scrap metal pile area after removal of all inks and toners.

Items not accepted as part of the Electronics Recycling Program, that can be disposed of at the PWC Landfill or BFR Compost Facility during regular working hours are:

  • Kitchen appliances
  • Appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners)
  • Medical equipment
  • Wooden stereo speakers

Recycling Electronic Media - Green Disk offers a mail back recycling program for “tech trash.” It accepts all forms of electronic media and their cases (diskettes, zip disks, CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVDs, video tape, audio tape, game cartridges, DAT, DLT and virtually all other type of computer tapes), hard drives, Zip and Jaz drives, jump drives, inkjet and toner printer cartridges, cell phones, pagers, PDAs and their chargers, headsets, rechargeable batteries (but not regular alkaline ones) and their chargers, small computer accessories such as MP3 players, iPods, digital cameras, hand-held scanners, handheld games and other connected devices, cords, cables, boards, chips, and items removed from a computer, and laptop computers. For more information, call Green Disk at 800-305-DISK or view its website at http://www.greendisk.com/.
