Illegal Dumping in Storm Drains

The drains found on public streets (rectangular opening cut in curb) lead directly to local streams. Don't dump wastes or sweep leaves and grass into the storm drain. Please help prevent debris, litter and potentially hazardous waste from washing down the storm drain. This can hurt our waters.

Please report anyone dumping items such as used motor oil, pet waste, hazardous waste or grass clipping into these drains. Report problems to 703-792-7070.

If these drains are blocked or damaged, please call the Virginia Department of Transportation at 703-366-1900 to repair them.

Builders and developers are required to take steps to reduce the amount of soil and debris that is blown or washed off their work sites. These steps include regular clean up and installation of fencing to capture this waste. They are also required to set up a system to prevent soil and debris from washing into storm drains. They must also remove soil tracked or washed onto the roads.

Please report those problems to Public Works at 703-792-7070.
