Are you interested in volunteering in an organization promoting public safety in the community? The Prince William County Police Department is seeking qualified volunteer applicants.
Prince William County, Virginia, is a growing, diverse and dynamic community located within easy commuting distance from Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.
- 18 years of age or older
- Of good character beyond reproach
- Willing to submit to a limited or full background investigation to include a polygraph examination. (Please note that some volunteer positions do not require a polygraph examination.)
- Willing to volunteer a minimum of eight (8) hours a month, or 96 hours per year.
Following are duties that our volunteers may conduct:
|Assisting with traffic control at public or special events|
Roadside assistance (assist vehicle owners with proper placement of flares or traffic cones, or requesting a tow truck, etc.)
|SMART, traffic cone, ALPR, camera, and other trailer deployment||Relaying equipment and documents (flares, traffic cones, warrants, crime-scene equipment, mail, etc.)|
|Administrative duties||Crime analysis|
Staffing at Police informational booths
|Scribe duties during instances requiring the Incident Command System (ICS)||Support services during events such as natural disasters, snow storms, floods, missing-persons searches, etc.|
|Language interpretation assistance||Role-playing during training scenarios at the Criminal Justice Academy|
|Participation in search-and-rescue operations||Relaying vehicles for fleet operations|
|Assisting with conducting security surveys||Photography at Department functions|
|Conducting child safety-seat inspections||Supplementing the Telephone Reporting Unit, and assisting station desk officers and staff|
|Assist the Criminal Investigations Division where needed||Other duties as assigned in support of the Department's mission, goals and objectives|
