All dogs and cats adopted from the Prince William County Animal Shelter must be spayed or neutered. The prices below may not reflect the fact that some veterinarians will itemize a bill (for instance, they may charge separately for anesthesia, boarding, pain medication, etc.). Be sure to get full billing details from your veterinarian.
  • The cost to adopt a dog is $45. This cost includes initial distemper combo vaccine, rabies vaccine, intranasal bordatella and microchip. If the dog is not already spayed or neutered, it will be delivered directly to a contracted veterinarian and the procedure will be completed prior to the dog being taken home. The cost for the spay or neuter of a dog is $140, payable directly to the veterinarian at the time of pick up. If the dog is not able to have immediate surgery, arrangements will be made between the new owner and the Shelter to have the dog returned on a particular date to have the procedure completed.
  • The cost to adopt a cat is $45. This cost includes initial distemper combo vaccine, rabies vaccine and microchip. If the cat is not already spayed or neutered, it will be delivered directly to a contracted veterinarian and the procedure will be completed prior to the cat being taken home. The cost for the spay or neuter of a cat is $100, payable directly to the veterinarian at the time of pick up. If the cat is not able to have immediate surgery, arrangements will be made between the new owner and the Shelter to have the cat returned on a particular date to have the procedure completed.
