The Prince William Crime Prevention Council is a non-profit organization composed of citizen volunteers and law enforcement. It was established in 1982 for the exclusive purpose of promoting the common good and the social welfare of the citizens of Prince William County by:
  • Stimulating interest in crime prevention in Prince William County.
  • Promoting the formation and effective operation of Neighborhood Watch programs under the auspices of the Prince William County Police Department.
  • Providing a forum and a voice for the exchange of ideas about reducing and preventing crime.
  • Maintaining a Speakers Bureau for educating County residents about crime prevention.
  • Serving as a liaison between the Police Department and citizens, businesses and police-authorized Neighborhood Watch programs.

You can join the Prince William Crime Prevention Council

There are two types of membership:

  1. Every resident of a sanctioned Neighborhood Watch group shall automatically be entitled to membership in the Council, and each Watch shall be entitled to one vote.
  2. Any individual, community service organization, church, or business interested in helping to support the activities of the Council shall be entitled to membership upon approval by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. These members shall have no vote in the operation of the Council.

 Officers and Board

The Board of Directors consists of 13 members who are elected every two (2) years by the membership of the Council. The Board then elects a president, secretary and treasurer. The vice president is a Prince William County Police Crime Prevention Unit officer who is appointed by the Police Department.
