New Gainesville Library Community 'Listening' Meeting
May 18 2012

Please join county officials and the architect for a special meeting to hear from the community regarding the new Gainesville Library on Wednesday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Fire Station (3510 James Madison Highway, Haymarket, VA).  Design of this exciting new facility will begin soon, so please bring your questions, concerns and ideas.  We want this library to reflect the needs of the local community, so this meeting is an important first step.

The new library will be built on the corner of Rt. 15 and Lightner Road on a site proffered by the developer of Dominion Valley.  This 20,000 sq. ft. full service library was approved by the voters in 2006 as part of a bond referendum.  Design will take 12-15 months, and then construction will take another 12-18 months.

There is no registration for this event.

Volunteer for Summer Quest
Apr 02 2012

Teens: learn how you can help your library by volunteering for Summer Quest here!

Volunteers are essential to the operation of the Summer Quest program.  The primary job of a summer Quest volunteer is to assist patrons in registering and/or logging in books online and at the Summer Quest table.  Volunteers at the four full-service branches must have completed the 7th grade.  Volunteers at the neighborhood libraries must have completed the 6th grade or be at least 12 years old.

Powerspeak Languages
May 18 2012

The Library has added a language-learning program. Powerspeak Languages is a convenient and easy way to learn at your own pace, whether you are interested in learning a new language, brushing up on a language you used to speak, planning a vacation and want to practice some important phrases, or on the lookout for a useful tool for ESL students and tutors.

Patrons can create their own account and log in anytime. You can track your own progress, repeat lessons or move on to new ones whenever you are ready. This is the first language-learning program the library system has ever offered, so go to the Electronic Resources page and try it out.
