Prince William Public Library System offers proctoring service for the public at the four full-service libraries. Due to computer time restrictions, we do not proctor online exams or any tests requiring the use of a computer.
PWPLS reserves the right to decline to proctor any exam at the librarian’s discretion.
If you are in need of a proctor for your print exam, follow the steps outlined below:
Call or visit the library where you would like to take the test. A librarian will be assigned to be your proctor.

Using the proctor’s contact information, the student prepares any paperwork required by the school.
The exam is sent to the proctor. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the library to make sure all tests are received. Exams may be received at the libraries via U.S. Mail, email, fax, Federal Express, etc.
Librarian and student schedule a mutually convenient time for the student to take the test. Staff schedules are not altered to accommodate proctored exams. Librarians do not proctor exams “on demand.”
Student takes the exam. The student must not require direct supervision while taking an exam.
The librarian returns the test to the school. Exams are returned to the schools via the PWPLS mailroom. The library reserves the right to return facsimile or emailed exams via the U.S. Mail.
Costs & Expenses
PWPLS charges a $35 per test fee for proctoring services. The student is responsible for all paper, supplies, envelopes, photocopying, faxing costs, postage and fees. Faxing is $1.00 per sheet outgoing and .15 per page incoming. Copying from email or the photocopier is .15 per page.
If the student misses an appointment, the librarian reschedules at a date and time convenient to both parties. The student may not request a substitute proctor except in an emergency.
If a student misses two appointments without a valid reason, the librarian returns the uncompleted exam to the learning institution. Librarians are not required to schedule an exam for a third time.

Driver Improvement Tests
The Prince William Public Library System has agreements with two companies, Driving University and Ticketschool.com, to verify the identity of students who come to the Library to take their final test after having completed a driver improvement course. The Library does not have agreements with any other organization to perform this service. Some businesses such as local UPS stores will often facilitate driver improvement tests, but calling the store in advance is advised.
