Milroy Drive Fire Incident
On Monday, July 16th at approximately 12 noon, fire and rescue units responded to a town house fire located in the 17900 block of Milroy Drive in Dumfries.
Upon arrival, fire and rescue units observed smoke showing from the roof of a two-story mid-row town home.   Fire and rescue units were informed that an occupant who resides in the basement was unaccounted for.  Fire and rescue crews initiated a search of the home during fire suppression. The search resulted in no occupants found except for the family dog which later passed away.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked the home for further extension. No further extension was found.
One occupant sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The fire was discovered by an occupant of the home who alerted the remaining residents.
Two adults and four children were displaced; Red Cross was on scene to assist the family.
According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, the preliminary damage estimate is $60,000.
The origin of the fire was the second floor.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office and County Police.
