Pet Owner License Information
All dogs age four months and older must be licensed. Renewal dog licenses are purchased each year and are available beginning in November. The due date for license renewals is February 1 (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article IV).
Any dog not having a license tag by February 1 will be in violation of County Code and the owner will be subject to a fine.
How To Obtain A License
To purchase a license, complete a Dog License Application Form
and return it with a current rabies vaccination certificate. A license will not be issued without proof of a current rabies vaccination.
The license fee is $10.00 per dog.
All cats four months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination (see the Prince William Code
Chapter 4, Article V). Cats are not required to be licensed.
Dog owners moving into the County must comply with the license requirements and register their dogs at the time of the move.
