Pet Owner License Information

Dogs

All dogs four months of age and older must be licensed. Dog licenses are renewed annually and can be purchased beginning in November.  The due date for license renewals is January 31 of each year (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article IV).

Any dog not having a license tag after January 31 will be in violation of County Code and the owner subject to a fine.

Dog owners moving into the County must comply with the license requirements and register their dogs at the time of the move.

How To Obtain A License

The fee is $10 per dog license.

To purchase a license, complete a Dog License Application Form and return it with a current rabies vaccination certificate. A license will only be issued with proof of a current rabies vaccination.

Dog licenses can be purchased at the Animal ShelterTaxpayer Services Office, or by mail.
