Pet Owner License Information

Dog Registration
 

All dogs four months of age and older must be licensed. Dog licenses are renewed annually, and can be purchased beginning in November. The due date for renewals is January 31 of each year (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article IV).  

Dog licenses can be purchased at the Animal Shelter, Taxpayer Services Offices, or by mail. To purchase a license, complete a Dog License Application Form and return it with a current rabies vaccination certificate. A license will not be issued without proof of a current rabies vaccination. The fee is $10.00 per dog license.

Cats

All cats four months of age and older must have a current rabies vaccination (see the Prince William Code Chapter 4, Article V).  Cats are not required to be licensed.

Dog owners moving into the County must comply with the license requirements and register their dogs at the time of the move.
