The week long celebration began on November 13th with a festive decorations, a map gallery and display of historic mapping tools. The GIS staff captivated the attention of many visitors and staff with their map "Where In The World Have You Been", asking everyone to participate by placing a dot on the map to the countries they have visited. The results was a brightly covered map that shows quite the diversity of travelers in PWC!. That evening, GIS staff participated in an educational open house event at Quantico Marine Corps Base. School aged children from all over the area had the opportunity to explore and learn about GIS technology.

On November 14, 2012, Prince William County GIS hosted their own open house to bring awareness to the importance of geography and the technology of GIS.  This four hour event offered County staff and citizens the opportunity to learn how GIS is used in various County agencies use GIS in their daily business, see interactive demos of GIS applications and even enjoy a piece of cake and great giveaways.
