Development Fee Information

As part of the annual budget process, the Department of Development Service (DDS) is responsible for submitting a proposed fee schedule (Land and Building Development) to the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS). Additionally, a public hearing is scheduled to provide community development customers with the opportunity to submit comments and feedback prior to the BOCS adopting the fee schedule on April 29, 2014. The public hearing for the FY15 proposed fee schedule will be held on April 8, 2014 at 7:30pm in the board chambers located in the McCoart Building – One County Complex Court, Prince William, VA 22192.

Building Development and Land Development are now accepting in person payments with credit cards bearing the Visa, MasterCard and Discover name and logo for development related fees, excluding Proffers, Bonds and Escrow payments.
The revisions affect fees in the Departments of Development Services, Public Works, Transportation, the Office of Planning, and the Fire Marshal's Office.
Land Development Fee Schedule – BOCS approved a 3.5% across-the-board increase, rounded to the nearest dollar, to the fee schedule.  The increase will support the following fee based activities: Rezoning and Special Use Permit Applications (SUPs), Site and Subdivision Plans, Geotechnical Studies, Floodplain, Resource Protection Area Studies, Site Development Bond Administration and Permits, and Lot Grading Plan Reviews.  (Resolution adopted by BOCS)
Building Development Fee ScheduleWith the exceptions noted below, BOCS approved a 3.5% across-the-board increase and 12% increase on non-residential fees. (Resolution adopted by BOCS)
Amusement Device Fees – Virginia Amusement Device Regulations, 13 VA 5-31-100, specifies the fees to be charged in this category.  However, the Code Academy levy will be added to the base fee pursuant to Section 36-98.3 of the Code of Virginia.
Plan Review Filing Fees, Non-Residential – The current filing fee is based on a percentage of the final building permit fee.  No increase to the filing fee is necessary.
Surcharges – No increase is necessary to the Code Academy, Information Technology, and Indirect Cost surcharges. 
Payment Methods Payment can be made using cash, checks, or credit/debit cards for all development related fees.  However, credit card payments for bonds and/or escrows (including lot escrows) will not be accepted (cash or separate check only).  Checks should be made payable to ‘Prince William County’ or ‘PWC’.  Only the following credit/debit cards will be accepted for land development fees: Master Card, Visa, and Discover.  All credit/debit card transactions must be processed in person.  Currently, we do not accept credit/debit card payments over the phone or online.
