In-Home assistance helps older adults live at home for as long as possible, given the limits of their physical condition. Assistance covers a wide range of programs and services that can often delay the need to move into another setting, such as an assisted living facility or nursing home. The Prince William Area Agency on Aging provides a variety of programs and services to older adults who would like to remain in their home:
Personal Care services provide personal assistance, stand-by-assistance, supervision or cues for persons with the inability to perform one or more of the following activities of daily living: eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, transferring in and out of bed/chair or walking. Care coordination services help older adults and their caregivers navigate the long-term care services system and make decisions about personal care. Individuals are assisted in identifying needs, developing service plans, arranging and coordinating services, and monitoring progress.
Senior Link is the free telephone reassurance program offered through the ACTS Helpline that provides calls to homebound adults aged 60 and over. Through Senior Link trained volunteers provide regular contact, safety checks, and medication reminders, scheduled at the recipient’s convenience. Call (703) 368-4141 to sign up for Senior Link and choose the frequency and times of reassurance calls.
Meals on Wheels
Home Delivered Meals popularly known as "Meals on Wheels," are nutritious meals delivered to the homes of older persons who are homebound. Meals are prepared at the senior center and are delivered by volunteers. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday with emergency shelf stable meals provided in the event that hot meals cannot be delivered. A suggested minimum donation of $1.50 per meal is requested. Companion Aide Registry
The Prince William Area Agency on Aging maintains an ongoing list of self-employed individuals who offer in-home care to adults on an ongoing basis. The Companion Aide Registry for the Elderly (C.A.R.E.) is available to persons needing companionship and assistance with daily living tasks such as housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, supervision of medications and friendly visitor services. Fees charged for services are negotiated between the companion and the potential employer themselves. Copies of the C.A.R.E. Registry can be picked up, mailed or emailed upon request. CARE Registry Application
Application can be completed by hand or by typing into the fields provided. Applicant can choose to either print and mail the application or scan and email it to the address provided.
Care Registry Reference Form
You must provide three references, preferably work-related. The completed forms can be mailed in alongside the application form.
SP-167 Criminal History Record Request
This document (SP-167) must be filled out completely, notarized, and mailed to the address provided. You are responsible for the $20 fee required by the state to complete a Virginia State Criminal History Record Check.
