Congratulations Technician I Rebekah Fulton

You have been chosen as the Fire and Rescue Department's Team Member of the Month for October 2013 for taking the initiative to assist a young girl with her medical needs.

This particular family had been to the station on several occasions requesting and receiving various forms of assistance.  On this occasion, the young daughter had hives developing on her torso and face.  After calling for a medic, you determined that the pediatrician had called in a prescription to the local pharmacy.  After assessment, the mother refused any further care for her daughter.  Without a vehicle, the mother's intent was to walk the children to the local convenience store and hopefully obtain a ride from someone she recognized.  Knowing the medication was imperative for the child; you contacted the pharmacy to confirm the prescription was ready, and offered the family a ride to the pharmacy. .

While driving to the pharmacy, the children complained of being hungry and asked what was for dinner.  The mother responded that they would have "a can of ABC soup."  After picking up the prescription, you continued to a local restaurant where you bought the family dinner using your own funds.  After dinner, you drove the family home to ensure their safety.

While caring for the patient and family are normal practice, the care and compassion displayed by you was exceptional. You remained composed and professional throughout the event and provided the children with diversions in order to maintain a sense of calm.

Your actions exemplify the County and Department's visions and values with your efforts being emblematic of the Department's ultimate performance and personalized delivery values, and the County's vision of excellence and responsibility to do the right thing for the customer and community every time.
