Safe Summer 2013 Grilling and Fireworks Safety Demonstration Kickoff
May 23, 2013
On Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. officials from Prince William County and the region kicked-off our Safe Summer 2013 Campaign with a grilling & fireworks safety news conference/cookout and safety demonstration at Pfitzner Stadium, Home of the Potomac Nationals Baseball Club in Woodbridge, VA.
The event provided the media an opportunity to view legal and illegal fireworks and safe and unsafe grilling practices. Area Fire Chiefs, Fire Marshals & Law Enforcement officials were on hand to address the dangers associated with the use of grilling fires and illegal fireworks, and showed how these traditional summer time activities are mishandled and improperly used. Fire officials from throughout the region were available for comment and answered questions after the demonstrations. The Virginia State Police Bomb Squads and the area explosive ordinance technicians were present as a precaution during the live demonstration of explosive firework devices.
Our Safe Summer 2013 campaign themes are “Leave Fireworks to the Professionals” and “The Thrill of the Grill -- Don’t let it Burn you!” For more information about our Safe Summer Campaign, please view the attached documents.
