March 23, 2013
On Friday, March 22, at 12:49 p.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Holly Acres Mobile Home Park located in the 13700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. First-arriving units reported heavy fire conditions in a one-story mobile home. One adult safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival. The preliminary damage estimate is approximately $20,000.00. A representative from the Building Official’s Office posted the structure as unsafe. The Red Cross assisted four adults and two children who were displaced because of the fire. One civilian was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. The County Police assisted with traffic control and scene management. The cause of the fire was classified as accidental by fire investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office attributed to improperly discarded ashes from a wood-burning appliance.

Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue would like to remind residents that ashes from wood-burning appliances could remain hot for several days. Discarded ashes should be placed into approved metal containers in a secure location away from other combustible materials. They should never be placed or stored in combustible containers (i.e. cardboard box, plastic or paper bags, etc.).
