On Tuesday, June 11
at approximately 2:00 p.m. fire and rescue units were dispatched to a town house fire located in the 16600 block of Galt Court in Woodbridge.
Upon arriving on the scene, fire and rescue units observed fire showing from the side and rear of the structure.
A firefighter “Mayday” was called when the fast moving fire momentarily trapped firefighters while operating inside the residence. Due to the swift actions by fire and rescue units on the scene, the firefighters were successfully rescued and sustained only minor injuries.
A second alarm was requested as the fire extended further into the residence and into adjacent townhouses.
Mutual aid was requested from Manassas, Quantico and Fairfax to assist in the control and extinguishing the fire.
Additionally, the fire damaged two adjacent townhouses. All three townhouses were inspected and posted as unsafe by the building official.
Two firefighters were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and released.
Red Cross was called to the scene to assist 3 adults and 1 child displaced by the fire.
County police assisted with on scene management.
