Frozen Pipes Displace Residents of Senior Housing Complex
January 6, 2014
On Saturday, January 4
, at approximately 12:30 p.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a fire alarm sounding at the River Run Apartments, 13910 Hedgewood Drive in Woodbridge.
Units arrived on the scene to find a broken sprinkler pipe that caused significant water damage to multiple floors in one wing of the building. A total of 32 apartments were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Red Cross was on scene to assist approximately 20-25 residents; reports later indicated there were 6 displaced residents that required assistance.
During the incident, EOC was activated at approximately 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. to assist with potential sheltering needs.
The Building Department was notified.
