Buck Up 4 Love
For Release
February 13, 2013
Motor vehicle crashes kill more children each year than any other cause, but the correct use of child safety seats and safety belts can save the lives and prevent the injuries of a large majority of children in crashes.

Did you know that 85% of child safety seats are defective or incorrectly installed?  To ensure our newest Prince William County residents start off their life’s journey safely, the Department of Fire & Rescue will present the first child born on February 14th, at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and Prince William Hospital, a new car seat.

“Buckle up your kids, yourself, and Buckle Up For Love today and every day,” states, Chief Kevin McGee of the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue.  “Please join the Department to help us inform others of just how easy it is to protect the ones you love.”

Through education, training, enforcement, outreach and legislation, the Prince William County Safe Kids Coalition, comprised of the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue, Prince William County Police and the Sheriff’s Office, seeks to ensure that all children, from birth to age 16, are properly restrained in the correct restraint system every time they travel in a motor vehicle.

Is your family riding safe?  On Saturday, February 23, 2013, the Department in conjunction with the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department will hold a child seat education and inspection at 11310 Coles Drive in Manassas, VA, 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Department is proud to partner with our Fire & Rescue Association, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and Prince William Hospital in this life-saving effort.  For more information, please visit, http://www.pwcgov.org/fire or https://www.facebook.com/PWCDFR.
