Office of Emergency Management
Emergency Management Overview
The County's Office of Emergency Management (EM) coordinates efforts to ensure that the County is able to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from any type of natural or human-caused disaster. The County uses an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness which means that planning efforts consider all types of disasters that could occur in the County.
Emergency Management falls within the Department of Fire and Rescue. However, emergency management encompasses the entire County. We work in collaboration with other community groups including the American Red Cross, Volunteer Prince William and other emergency partners.
In addition to emergency preparedness planning, EM also:
  • Manages the PWC Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
  • Oversees the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
  • Conducts and facilitates training and exercise programs on intra-agency, inter-agency and multi-jurisdictional levels
  • Manages Homeland Security grants from the federal government
