Human Trafficking

​Despite being a relatively new and less prevalent issue in the Prince William area, as a concerned and aware community we should be aware of how human trafficking might appear in our community, including sex trafficking by gangs.

Human Trafficking Risk Factors

  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of feeling connected to family, school, community, church, positive role models, positive groups or activities
  • History of skipping school or runaway
  • Victim of child sexual or mental abuse, bullying
  • Gang involvement

Signs of Being Trafficked

  • Tattoos with a nickname, a man’s name, reference to daddy or money symbols
  • Unexplained possession of money or material goods
  • Unexplained injuries
  • Starts referring to self by a new name
  • Running away or skipping school
  • Becomes secretive about new friends or where they are going
