Subpoena Requests

The Clerk's Office (Room 314) prepares witness subpoenas and subpoena duces tecum (subpoenas for the production of records) for civil cases. Subpoena requests should be delivered to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. A letter specifying the request must be provided. Subpoena requests should be in compliance with the Code of Virginia and Rules of the Virginia Supreme Court and this Court's suggested guidelines for the appropriate case type.

Provide the original plus two copies of request for each party to be served.

Foreign Subpoenas

If the originating case is in another state (foreign) and service is needed for a person or documents in Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park, you will need to request what is called a “Foreign Subpoena”.  You must provide the Civil Office (Room 314) with a certified court order or a certified commission from the clerk's office where the case is housed.

All original documents will be retained by our Court.  We need 2 copies of each for service and an additional copy with a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like a date stamped copy returned to you.
