The Honorable Corey A. Stewart
Corey A. Stewart was re-elected Chairman at-large of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in 2011. Prince William County is located 25 miles south of Washington, D.C., and is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s second-most populated county with a population of approximately 410,000 people. Under Chairman Stewart’s leadership, the Board has trimmed County spending by more than $143 million resulting in:
- Average tax bills being reduced to the lowest level in four years (averaging 35 percent below those in neighboring Fairfax County);
- The County being upgraded to AAA bond rating status by all three credit agencies - S&P, Fitch and Moody’s (a measure only 0.4 percent of localities have achieved). According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Prince William County is the #1 locality in job growth in Virginia and the #3 locality for job growth in the nation.
Chairman Stewart has received national and regional recognition for other accomplishments including:
Implementing the nation’s toughest crackdown on illegal immigration, resulting in the County turning over more than 4300 criminal illegal immigrants to the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency;
Reducing violent crime 35 percent since he took office, leaving overall crime at a 15-year low;
Reforming the business and permitting process and the County’s economic development efforts; and
Establishing the County’s first independent Department of Audit Services and strengthening the County’s internal controls.
Chairman Stewart is an international trade attorney in private practice. He earned his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. Chairman Stewart resides in Woodbridge with his wife, Maria, and two sons, Isaac and Luke.
