The Department’s recruitment and selection process supports the Prince William County Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Plans.

The selection process takes approximately four to eight months after the application has been received. Applicants must successfully complete the following phases:

  • Police Officer Application Form
  • Written examination
  • Conditional offer of employment
  • Pre-screening interview
  • Polygraph examination
  • Background interview and investigation
  • Medical physical examination
  • Body art/tattoo policy
  • Physical fitness test
  • Written/oral psychological examination
  • Police officer ride-a-long
  • Interview with the Chief of Police or designee
  • Final approval by: Chief of Police, Human Resources, County Executive

The Police Department uses a formal application -- rather than a resume -- in our employment process. Your completed application can be mailed to the Prince William County Police Department, Police Personnel Bureau, 9540 Center Street, Suite 101, Manassas, VA 20110.
